About
Port Stephens artist, Helen Jackson, creates both figurative and functional art.
Helen is also the creative owner of Hand Crafted Ceramics. She began her ceramic art journey in the early 80’s at a local community hall in suburban Newcastle NSW. Throughout the years of variously bringing up young children, studying, working and running a business, she continued drawing and painting, and kept returning to clay as her mainstay of self-expression. Her ongoing general interest in visual arts led her to sporadically participate in assorted pottery and painting groups, short courses, and TAFE and University studies.
Mostly residing on the east coast of NSW, with a few years in Tasmania, Helen has an affinity with the ocean, beach and lush forest environments. Her small apartment in Nelson Bay is adorned with beautiful objects collected from nature and which inspire her ceramic work. Her garage looks onto a pleasant parkland reserve and provides a pleasant work area. Her learning continues and informs her current art practice.
