Description
This high quality ceramic piece was hand crafted from a thin slab of porcelain clay. It was carefully compressed, cut out, and shaped by hand. The artist made the indigo-coloured under-glaze slip (using cobalt oxide among other ingredients) which she used, along with a piece of vintage lace, to pattern the clay. After it was bisque-fired a clear glaze was applied over the top of the pattern. The glost firing process vitrified the porcelain, making it impervious to water.
Although the resulting ceramic piece is eerily light, it is also very durable. It is not easily broken or chipped but, like all pottery, it is susceptible to breakage from thermal shock and dropping from height onto hard surfaces. This beautiful piece of ceramic art is food-safe, can be put in the dishwasher, and used in both conventional and microwave ovens.
